p align="JUSTIFY"bTotal population grew by 1.69 percent annually/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The province of Cebu (excluding Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City) had a total population of 2,440,120 persons as of August 1, 2007, higher by 12.9 percent compared with the census count of 2,160,569 persons as of May 1, 2000. The increase in population count for the period 2000 to 2007 translated to an annual population growth rate of 1.69 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"Similarly, the household population of Cebu increased by 13.0 percent from 2,151,873 persons in 2000 to 2,431,702 persons in 2007. The number of households, grew by 18.7 percent from 429,120 in 2000 to 509,334 in 2007. The average household size in 2007 was 4.8 persons, lower than the average household size of 5.0 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bCity of Talisay remained on top in terms of population size/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the City of Talisay had the biggest population size compared to the 5 other cities and 44 municipalities of the province (excluding Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City). It accounted for 7.4 percent of the total population of Cebu. It was followed by Toledo City (6.3 percent) and Danao City (4.5 percent). These were also the top three cities in 2000 in terms of population size. The municipality of Tudela (0.5 percent) remained the least populated during the 2000 and 2007 censuses./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1055f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bSex ratio was 103 males per 100 females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 2,431,702 household population in 2007, males accounted for 50.8 percent while females comprised 49.2 percent. These figures resulted to a sex ratio of 103 males for every 100 females, higher than the sex ratio of 102 males per 100 females recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age increased to 21 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the median age of the household population in the province was 21 years, which means that half of the household population was below 21 years old. The median age in 2000 was 20 years./p p align="JUSTIFY"Persons aged 0 to 14 years comprised 36.3 percent of the household population. Children aged 0 to 4 years accounted for 12.3 percent of the household population, followed by those in age groups 5 to 9 years (12.2 percent) and 10 to 14 years (11.8 percent)./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 2" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1055f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in age groups 0 to 49 years. Females outnumbered males in age groups 50 years and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAbout 57 percent were of voting age/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The voting-age population (18 years old and over) of Cebu in 2007 was 1,386,384, accounting for 57.0 percent of the total household population. The voting-age population in 2000 was 1,188,777, or 55.2 percent of the total household population. Males (50.2 percent) outnumbered females (49.8 percent) in the total voting-age population in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bDependency ratio was down to 70 dependents per 100 persons in the working age group/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Nearly three-fifths (58.7 percent) of the household population belonged to the working-age population (15 to 64 years). Young dependents (under 15 years) comprised 36.3 percent while old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 5.0 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio for Cebu in 2007 was 70. This means that for every 100 persons in the working-age population, there were 70 dependents (62 young and 8 old dependents). This figure was down from the dependency ratio of 76 in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore males among never-married persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 10 years old and over, 45.4 percent were married while 44.6 percent were never married. The remaining 10.0 percent were either widowed, divorced/separated, had common law/live-in marital arrangement, or had unknown marital status. Almost similar proportions of persons aged 10 years old and over by marital status were observed in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"A higher proportion of males (54.1 percent) than females (45.9 percent) was observed among never-married persons in 2007. Meanwhile, the proportions of females were higher compared to that of males among those married (50.4 percent), widowed (72.6 percent), divorced/separated (62.4 percent), and persons in common law/live-in marital arrangement (50.7 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bFemales had higher levels of education/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Approximately 45 percent of the household population 5 years old and over had attended or completed elementary education, 29.7 percent had reached or finished high school, 5.9 percent were college undergraduates, and 6.2 percent were academic degree holders./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among those with academic degrees, there were more females (51.9 percent) than males (48.1 percent). Similarly, more females (52.4 percent) than males (47.6 percent) were reported among those who pursued post baccalaureate courses./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAbout 61 percent of household population 5 to 24 years old attended school/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"About three out of five (61.2 percent) of the household population 5 to 24 years old attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. School attendance for males (60.4 percent of all males aged 5 to 24 years) was lower than that for females (62.1 percent of all females aged 5 to 24 years) during the said school year./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOccupied housing units increased by 18.9 percent/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, there were 505,670 occupied housing units in Cebu. This was 18.9 percent higher than the number of occupied housing units recorded in 2000. A ratio of 101 households per 100 occupied housing units was computed in 2007. The same ratio was observed in 2000. However, the number of persons per occupied housing unit was 4.8 persons in 2007, lower than the ratio of 5.1 persons per occupied housing unit in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMajority of occupied housing units had outer walls and roofs made of strong materials/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Majority (73.1 percent) of the occupied housing units in Cebu had outer walls made of strong materials. However, the proportion of occupied housing units with outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa (24.9 percent) remained high. As to the construction materials of the roof, 81.8 percent had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum.
