Year-on-Year

  • The year-on-year growth of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) picked up 1.6 percent in April 2016. Last month, it was recorded at 1.1 percent and in April 2015, 1.8 percent. The uptrend was mainly due to the 4.1 percent annual growth registered in the heavily-weighted food index. Higher annual gains were also observed in the indices of beverages and tobacco at 1.0 percent; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.3 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 0.9 percent. Moreover, the index for manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials recorded a positive annual growth of 0.4 percent in April 2016 from a 0.1 percent annual decrease last month.

On the contrary, slowdowns in the annual increments were posted in the indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels at 0.5 percent and machinery and transport equipment, 0.7 percent. The index for mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials exhibited an annual decline of 9.5 percent during the month (Table 2).
