- Producer Price Index slightly declines in November 2017
The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for manufacturing dropped at a slower rate of 1.3 percent in November 2017 compared with a negative 4.7 percent of previous year. This was due to the double-digit decline of three major sectors namely; fabricated metal products (-28.3 percent), leather products (-22.1 percent) and furniture and fixtures (-17.5 percent), along with other 12 major sectors that posted negative growth. On the other hand, petroleum products (8.9 percent) led the five major sectors that posted increases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-1.
Month-on-month, PPI likewise decelerated by 0.9 percent in November 2017 after posting a 0.2 percent growth rate in the previous month. Electrical machinery (-2.3 percent) led the 13 major sectors that posted decreases. Moreover, three major sectors posted flat growths and four major sectors exhibited increases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-2.

- Introduction
- Method of Index Computation
Starting with January 2017 PPI, a link factor was used to adjust weight effects and measure the correct price change. The weights are adjusted using the 2013 ASPBI.
- Industry Coverage
Starting with January 2013 reference month, the PPI utilizes the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC) to classify sectors and industries. Selected industry classes of the 2009 PSIC were grouped to form the 20 industry groupings of the 2017 PPS. These are presented in the table below.
