The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) approved the clearance for the conduct of the 2018 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS) on 22 June 2018. The OWS, which is conducted every two years, aims to generate statistics for wage and salary administration and wage determination in collective bargaining negotiations.

A total of 17,367 establishments will be selected for the 2018 OWS. The survey will utilize a total of Php 10.6 million for maintenance and other operating expenses.
The conduct of the survey will be undertaken from July to December 28, 2018, while the results are expected to be released in September 2019.

Meanwhile, key results from the 2016 OWS are as follows:

  • Among various time-rated workers on full-time basis, aircraft pilots, navigators and flight engineers received the highest monthly wage rate amounting to Php 116,714 in 2016.

  • Securities and finance dealers and brokers received monthly pay of Php 89,831 on the average. Civil engineers and actuaries came next with Php 68,957 and Php 60,477 average monthly salaries, respectively.

  • Other highly paid occupations in 2016 included computer programmers (Php 52,331); system analysts and designers (Php 51,069); computer engineers (Php 49,335); accountants and auditors (Php 47,756); production supervisors and general foremen (Php 47,101); and statisticians (Php 41,480).

The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:
  • ensure sound design for data collection;
  • minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  • effect economy in statistical data collection;
  • eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  • achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins establishments to support the said survey.
