Mining and Quarrying improves
Mining and Quarrying rebounded in the first quarter of 2018 with
4.5 percent growth from a contraction of 17.8 percent in the same period last year. The main contributor to the growth was Crude Oil, Natural Gas and Condensate which posted a turnaround growth of 31.2 percent from 28.5 percent decline in 2017. Other contributors to the growth were: Other Non-Metallic mining, 12.2 percent; Stone quarrying, clay and sandpits, 3.8 percent; and Chromium mining, 28.5 percent. On the other hand, the remaining subsectors declined: Gold mining, 23.8 percent, Nickel mining, 13.5 percent, Copper mining, 8.0 percent; and Other metallic mining, 15.0 percent .
