Mining and Quarrying recovers
Mining and quarrying expanded in the third quarter of 2017 by
4.6 percent from 2.0 percent decline in same period last year. The main contributor to the growth was Crude oil, Natural Gas & Condensate with 15.0 percent growth. Other subsectors which contributed to the growth were: Stone quarrying, clay and sandpits (8.7 percent), Nickel mining (4.4 percent) and Gold mining (3.2 percent).
On the other hand, other subsectors posted declines and pulled down the growth during the period: Other non-metallic mining
(-1.9 percent); Copper mining (-11.7 percent); Chromium mining (-50.8 percent); and Other metallic mining (-16.8 percent).
