January 2018 to March 2018


  • Production of coconut for this quarter increased from 3.07 million metric tons to 3.33 million metric tons (8.5 percent).  The increase in production was influenced by the following:
    • recovery from stress brought about by the dry spell in 2016 and increase in salt fertilizer usage in PCA, Davao Region (Davao Sur); and
    • effect of adequate rains during the fruit development stage in the third quarter of 2017 in SOCCSKSARGEN (Sarangani) and recovery from typhoon Nina in Bicol Region (Camarines Sur) and CALABARZON (Quezon).
  • Davao Region and Zamboanga Peninsula were the top coconut-producing regions for the quarter, with contributions of 15.8 percent and 14.0 percent, respectively.  This was followed by Northern Mindanao, ARMM, and CALABARZON with contributions of 12.7 percent, 9.3 percent, and 9.2 percent, respectively.
