Major Non-Food and Industrial Crops Quarterly Bulletin, July-September 2017

July 2017 to September 2017

  • Production of coconut for this quarter increased by 3.3 percent from 3.69 million metric tons to 3.81 million metric tons during the same quarter of the previous year.
  • The increase in production was attributed to more nuts harvested due to sufficient rains during the fruiting stage and application of salt and organic fertilizer from PCA in CALABARZON (Quezon).  Also, high buying price of copra and increased number of bearing trees in Zamboanga Peninsula (Zamboanga del Norte) contributed for the rise in production.  In addition, SOCCSKSARGEN (Sarangani) recovered from drought last year.
  • CALABARZON was the top coconut-producing region for the quarter with contribution of 15.1 percent.  This was followed by Northern Mindanao, Davao Region and Zamboanga Peninsula with contributions of 13.1 percent, 12.0 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively.
