Major Vegetables and Root Crops Quarterly Bulletin, October-December 2017

October 2017 to December 2017

  • For October-December 2017, cabbage production slightly dropped by 0.2 percent, from 50.41 thousand metric tons in the same quarter of 2016 to 50.30 thousand metric tons this year. This could be traced to the following:
    • smaller heads harvested in Central Visayas (Negros Oriental) due to frequent rains; and
    • shifting to sweet potato, tomato, and squash production in Davao Region (Davao City) due to high cost of inputs for cabbage production.
  • Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) sustained to be the largest producer of cabbage with 40.22 thousand metric tons representing 80.0 percent of the total output this quarter. This was followed by Northern Mindanao with 7.3 percent and Central Visayas with 5.8 percent.
