The number of births registered in 2014 had a total of 1,748,857, a decrease of about 0.7 percent compared to 1,761,602 births in 2013. In 2014, there was an average of 4,791 babies born daily or 200 babies born per hour or three babies per minute.

The number of births from 2005 to 2014 showed an erratic trend. There was a 3.5 percent increase from the figure of 1.69 million recorded in 2005 (Figure 1 and Table 1).

More males (912,465 or 52.2%) were born than females (836,392 or 47.8%) which resulted to a sex ratio of 109 males per 100 females (Table 2).

In a span of 10 years, there was a recorded decrease of 17.0 percent from 518,595 in 2005 to 429,723 in 2014.

The reported marriages in 2014 showed a decrease of 3.0 percent from 442,900 marriages in 2013 (Figure 1 & Table 1).
