CONDUCT OF AN ANNUAL FAMILY INCOME SURVEY

WHEREAS, the government is pursuing an all-out campaign against poverty through the implementation of the Social Reform Agenda;

WHEREAS, the monitoring of the poverty situation is a vital component in the evaluation of government/private endeavors to fight poverty;

WHEREAS, data on family income are important inputs in monitoring the poverty situation in the country;

WHEREAS, the Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES) conducted by the National Statistics Office provides the information needed in generating poverty statistics;

WHEREAS, there has been an increasing demand for the production of annual poverty statistics on a regular basis;

WHEREAS, this activity was included in the work program of the Task Force on Data Support for Wage Determination;

WHEREAS, the present FIES provides family income data only every three years;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve the conduct of an Annual Family Income Survey by the National Statistics Office (NSO) in years when the FIES is not conducted;

BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Board approve the inclusion of the budgetary requirements for this activity in the annual budget to be submitted by the NSO to the Department of Budget and Management.
