With the intention to holistically enhance the coordination activities prior to the actual conduct of the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) data collection, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office – Northern Mindanao, headed by Officer-in-Charge Regional Director (RD) Janith C. Aves, initiated a CBMS Project Review and Evaluation Workshop. This activity was held last 27 January 2023 at Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. The Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators and Municipal Statisticians from various local government units (LGUs) within the said region were gathered for a collaborative discourse among the concerned parties.

The workshop was graced by National Economic and Development Authority Region X Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño, PSA Offier-in-Charge Deputy National Statistician (DNS) Minerva Eloisa Esquivias, and Assistant National Statistician (ANS) Kristine Joy Briones.

ANS Briones presented the results from the 2021 Pilot CBMS operations and linked the significance of having a local-level data through the CBMS as a statistical activity. Further, OIC-DNS Esquivias likens the CBMS results as a picture of a community where it allows a multidimensional view of a household’s and barangay’s development.

Relative to the usefulness of the CBMS data especially for an evidence-based decision-making, policymaking, program implementation and the like, RD Cariño stressed the importance of accuracy and validity of the CBMS data, and its comparability across LGUs towards a sustained and inclusive growth.
