In celebration of the National Census and Community-Based Monitoring Month this July 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) kicks off its 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) through a national press launch on Tuesday, 09 July 2024, 10:00 AM, at the PSA Headquarters in Quezon City.

This initiative comes after the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the national statistical agency to conduct a census to update the list of beneficiaries of social protection programs though the CBMS to ensure that the government’s anti-poverty efforts are responsive and effective.

To optimize government resources and to avoid fatigue to respondents, the PSA deems it necessary to integrate the POPCEN with the CBMS operations ahead of its original schedule in 2025.

PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General underscored the importance of integrating these two major statistical activities.

“The 2024 POPCEN-CBMS is one of PSA’s greatest contributions to the Philippines. Data derived from this activity will serve as our nation’s driving force — fueling government’s social and economic development plans, policies, and programs that would benefit every Filipino people.”

“It’s a cost-efficient strategy, and we, at the PSA, remain committed in our mission to deliver relevant and reliable statistics to our clients and stakeholders,” Usec. Mapa also notes.

The PSA is set to deploy at least 70,000 enumerators across the country to conduct a total enumeration of the Filipino households.

Data collected from the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS will be used in updating the inventory of the country’s population, as well as the list of beneficiaries of social protection initiatives. It will also serve as basis in targeting households in the planning, formulation, and implementation of programs and projects geared towards poverty alleviation. The enumeration period officially begins on 15 July 2024. The PSA encourages active participation from all sectors of society to achieve the success of this nationwide statistical activity.
