PSA Conducts Infosession: Integrating CBMS and Gender Inclusivity for Sustainable Development

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) hosted the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Infosession entitled “KomuniAksyon: Empowering Local Communities through the CBMS using Gender Lens Towards Sustainable Development” in the PSA 23-Storey Building, PSA Complex, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, on 19 March 2024. This activity aimed to highlight the pivotal role of CBMS in fostering sustainable development, particularly through a gender-inclusive approach in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and National Women's Month.

The infosession brought together tertiary-level students and members of the academe from various universities and colleges. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with esteemed experts and leaders in the field, who generously shared their insights and expertise. Among the resource persons are PSA Undersecretary and National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, Ms. Lisa Victoria N. Rosel from the College of Social Work and Community Development at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Ms. Anna Raphaela O. Cubacub, the Project Manager for Communications and Creatives at the Philippine Anti-Discrimination Alliance of Youth (PANTAY), and Engr. Mildred M. Purificacion, serving as the City Planning and Development Coordinator of Carmona City, Cavite.

Assistant National Statistician Kristine Joy S. Briones of Community-Based Statistics Service opened the session by emphasizing the importance of community-level focus and addressing sector-specific issues as integral strategies for achieving the SDGs.

The CBMS Infosession covered a wide range of topics, including the increasing involvement of the PSA in community development and its pivotal role as the nation's statistical authority. Additionally, it highlighted the utilization of CBMS data in identifying and addressing gender-specific needs and issues. Furthermore, it discussed numerous gender-based social issues within the community and emphasized the significance of women's participation in community development, particularly in addressing practical gender needs.

Participants of the infosession were able to understand the crucial role of community engagement in shaping inclusive policies and programs. Armed with newfound knowledge and tools, attendees were empowered to become advocates for the CBMS and actively contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.

The success of the CBMS Infosession underscores the commitment of the PSA to promote data-driven decision-making and inclusive development practices.
