Second Quarter 2025 PSGC Updates: Correction of the Names of Three Barangays
Release Date:During the second quarter of 2025, the names of three barangays in the Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) masterlist have been corrected based on the recommendation of the Interagency Technical Working Group on Geographic Code (TWGGC). The details of updates are as follows:
Correct Name | Old Name | Legal Basis |
| Santo Niño | Certification signed by the Municipal Mayor dated 10 March 2025 |
| Barangay ng mga Mangingisda |
|
| Santa Maria | Republic Act (RA) No. 11345 dated 27 April 2019 |
Meanwhile, the following barangays with identical names within the same municipality or city have been assigned specific descriptors, either based on their geographic district or former name, to distinguish them from one another:
Lopez, Quezon
- Barangay Rizal (Rural)
- Barangay Rizal (Poblacion)
Pilar, Sorsogon

- Barangay San Antonio (Sapa)
City of Sorsogon, Sorsogon
- Barangay Balogo (Sorsogon East District)
- Barangay Balogo (Bacon District)
- Barangay Buenavista (Sorsogon West District)
- Barangay Buenavista (Bacon District)

Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao del Sur

It is important to note that the addition of a descriptor does not constitute a change in the name of the barangay. Rather, it serves only as supplementary information to indicate the barangay’s location and avoid confusion when identifying barangays with the same name within the same municipality or city.
Additionally, the PSA has updated the income classification of provinces, cities, and municipalities in PSGC, pursuant to Department of Finance (DOF) Department Order No. 074.2024, titled “Schedule of Income Classification for the First General Income Reclassification of Provinces, Cities, and Municipalities Based on the Income Ranges Under Republic Act No. 11964,” which took effect on 01 January 2025.
The changes as of 30 June 2025 only involve correction of names. Thus, the number of barangays and other local government units (LGUs) are the same as reported on 31 March 2025. The latest number of LGUs is shown in the table below:
Geographic Level | Total Number (as of 30 June 2025) |
Region | 18 |
Province | 82 |
Highly Urbanized City (HUC) | 33 |
