Seventeen young statistics whizzes emerged as winners in this year's Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Regional Championships simultaneously held on November 13 in all the regions of the country. The champion in each region shall be the official representative to the PSQ National Finals to be held on December 4 at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management in Quezon City.
In preparation for the event, the National Statistics Office and the Philippine Statistical Association announced that they have already organized various committees that will help ensure the success of the undertaking. They said the National Steering Committee as well as its various working groups composed of NSO officials and employees and representatives from various statistical agencies are now busy preparing for the event.
"We are proud that the PSQ, which is now on its 16th year, continues to carry out its goal of instilling the value of statistics among students, eliciting awareness on its importance in national development planning, and generating support and public cooperation in government statistical activities," NSO Administrator and PSQ Chairperson Carmelita N. Ericta said.
The competition, which started in 1992 and has been endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education since 1994, is open to college freshmen from both public and private colleges and universities. During the contest, the regional champions put to test their statistical prowess as they compete in three rounds of tests on statistical theories and problems.
