A total of 886 transport, storage and communications establishments with total employment of 20 and over were covered in the 2008 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry. Most of these establishments were engaged in the following industries:
  • Land transport operation (PSIC I601) with 199 establishments (22.5%).
     
  • Activities of other transport agencies (PSIC I639) with 192 establishments (21.7%).
     
  • Telecommunications services (PSIC I642) with 127 establishments (14.3%).

Employment
 
Employment in 2008 for the sector reached a total of 144,413. The top employers were:
  • Telecommunications services (PSIC I642) with 34,223 workers (23.7%).
     
  • Land transport operation (PSIC I601) with 30,757 workers (21.3%).
     
  • Activities of other transport agencies (PSIC I639) with 18,273 workers (12.70%).
     
  • Supporting and auxiliary activities to water transport (PSIC I632) and scheduled air transport (PSIC I621) with 12,211 (8.5%) and 11,908 (8.2%) workers, respectively.

Revenue and Cost
 
Revenue generated by the sector in 2008 was estimated at PhP495.1 billion. On the other hand, the total cost spent by the sector reached PhP388.2 billion. Top contributors for the sector were the following:
  • Telecommunications services (PSIC I642) earned the biggest revenue and spent the highest cost for the sector amounting PhP269.0 billion (54.3%) and PhP168.4 billion (43.4%), respectively.
     
  • Scheduled air transport (PSIC I621) posted a higher cost than revenue with PhP104.4 billion (26.9%) and PhP79.0 billion (15.9%), respectively.
