The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) releases the report on the 2015-2017 Food Balance Sheets (FBS) of the Philippines. The last report of FBS was published in 2004 covering the period 1999 to 2001. In 2014, PSA restored the compilation of FBS through FAO Regional Project (TCP/RAS/3409), “Building Statistical Capacity for Quality Food Security and Nutrition Information in Support of Better Informed Policies”. Through this project, the Philippines participated in the series of capacity building on the preparation of FBS.

The FBS presents a comprehensive picture of the country’s food supply during a specified reference period. It gives an indication of the adequacy of food supply relative to the nutritional requirement of the population. It is a useful tool in designing, planning and assessment of policies and programs related to food security and nutrition.
