The industry section on Other Service Activities (as a residual category) includes the activities of membership organizations, the repair of computers and personal and household goods and variety of personal service activities not covered elsewhere in the classification.

Establishments engaged in personal services for wellness, except sports activities accounted for more than half of the total number of establishments in the Other Services Activities

Establishments engaged in other service activities totaled 15,469. More than half of it were those engaged in personal services for wellness, except sports activities accounting for 9,178 establishments (59.3%). Establishments engaged in laundry services came next with 2,881 establishments (18.6%); followed by those engaged in funeral and related services, and repair of personal and household goods with 1,475 establishments (9.5%), and 1,455 establishments (9.4%), respectively. (Table 1A, and Figure 2)

By region, National Capital Region (NCR) hosted the largest number of establishments engaged in other service activities with 2,393 establishments or 15.5 percent of the total number of establishments. Those located in Central Visayas followed with 1,602 establishments (10.4%). Ranked third were those in CALABARZON with 1,206 establishments (7.8%). (Table 3A)

The total number of establishments increased by 54.1 percent from 2012 to 2018.

Other service activities employed about 98 thousand employees in 2018

Establishments in other service activities employed a total of 98,447 employees.  Of the total, 95.0 percent (93,522 employees) were paid employees, while the remaining were unpaid workers and working owners. (Table 1)

Establishments engaged in personal services for wellness, except sports activities topped in terms of number of employees hired in 2018 with 65,953 employees or 67.0 percent of the total employment. Those engaged in laundry services distantly followed with 10,750 employees (10.9%). Those engaged in repair of personal and household goods with 9,621 employees (9.8%), and funeral and related activities with 9,307 employees (9.5%) followed. (Table 1A, and Figure 3)

Region-wise, establishments in NCR employed almost twenty-five percent of the total workforce with 24,448 employees (24.8%). Second highest were those located in Central Visayas with 10,367 employees (10.5%). Ranked third were those establishments in CALABARZON with 9,396 employees (9.5%). (Table 3A)

For other Service Activities Establishments, the average employment per establishment in 2018 was seven

The computed average employment per establishment for the industry section was 7 employees. The only industry group that surpassed the average was personal services for wellness, except sports activities with 8 employees per establishment. (Table 2)

The average employment per establishment in NCR and CALABARZON were above the computed national average ratio, having an average of 11 employees, and 8 employees per establishment, respectively. (Table 4)

The number of employees in 2018 decreased by -13.2 percent, compared to the 2012 report. (Figure 1 and Table A)

In addition, establishments engaged in this section also hired 5,125 workers on a sub-contract agreement or under manpower agencies/contractors. The biggest number of subcontracted workers (3,367 or 65.7%) was reported by establishments engaged in personal services for wellness, except sports activities. (Table 1)

Other service activities section paid a total compensation of 13.9 billion pesos in 2018

Establishments engaged in personal services for wellness, except sports activities paid the highest compensation amounting to PhP9.8 billion or 70.2 percent of the total compensation. The following industry groups also paid more than one billion for compensation: funeral and related activities, PhP1.3 billion (9.6%); repair of personal and household goods, PhP1.2 billion (8.6%); and laundry services, PhP1.1 billion (7.9%). (Table 1, and 1A)

Establishments engaged in other personal service activities, n.e.c. had the highest average annual compensation per paid employee amounting to PhP216.3 thousand, while the least average annual compensation was paid by establishments engaged in laundry services in the amount of PhP108.7 thousand. (Table 1, and Figure 4).

At the regional level, the following regions spent more than one million pesos in total compensation: NCR, PhP4.3 billion (31.0%); Western Visayas, PhP3.6 billion (25.6%); and CALABARZON, PhP1.1 billion (7.6%). (Table 3)

Personal services for wellness, except sports activities had the biggest share in revenue and expense

A total of PhP82.9 billion worth of revenue gained by the industry section in 2018, while expenses incurred worth PhP70.2 billion. (Table 1)

Personal services for wellness, except sports activities establishments had the biggest share in both revenue, and expense amounting to PhP56.5 billion (68.2%), and PhP47.6 billion (67.8%), respectively. (Table 1A, and Figure 5)

Revenue-expense ratio stood at 1.18

The revenue generated per peso expense was estimated at 1.18. This means that a corresponding income of PhP1.18 was generated for every peso spent.

The following industry groups surpassed the estimated revenue-expense ratio at the national level: other personal service activities, n.e.c., PhP1.35; personal services for wellness, except sports activities, PhP1.19; and laundry services, PhP1.19. (Table 2)

Value added amounted to 31.6 billion pesos

Establishments engaged in personal services for wellness, except sports activities produced the highest value added of PhP21.6 billion or 68.4 percent of the total value added. Other industries produced less than five billion pesos value added. (Table 1, and 1A)

Total value added produced by the industry was estimated at PhP31.6 billion.

Other service activities’ value added per employee was 320.2 thousand pesos per worker

The computed value added per worker (Labor Productivity) for the industry section was at PhP320.2 thousand.

Four among out of six industry groups exceeded the calculated value added per employee. These were other personal service activities, n.e.c., PhP637.0 thousand per worker; repair of computers and communications, PhP558.2 thousand per worker; funeral and related activities, PhP427.5 thousand per worker; and personal services for wellness, except sports activities, PhP326.9 thousand per worker. (Table 2)
