ADOPTION OF A METHODOLOGY TO GENERATE THE PRODUCER’S PRICE INDEX FOR MANUFACTURING

WHEREAS, there is a need to come up with a producer’s price index (PPI) for manufacturing for purposes of monitoring the current movement of prices of manufactured goods as they leave the establishments of the producers;

WHEREAS, the price index is vitally needed in the generation of other important indicators like the volume of production index (VOPI) and in the estimation of the manufacturing production in real terms in the system of national accounts;

WHEREAS, NSCB Resolution No. 6, series of 1991, mandates the generation and updating of prices indices including the PPI for manufacturing to improve their adequacy;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve the adoption of a methodology for coming up with the PPI for manufacturing as recommended by the Technical Committee on Price Statistics. Said methodology shall allow the generation of an index with the following features:

  1. Its base year is 1992;

  2. It will be made available by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on a monthly basis with a lag time of 45 days; and

  3. Its geographic coverage will be national or total Philippines only
