The average farmgate price of carabao for slaughter in October to December 2019 was recorded at PhP101.76 per kilogram, liveweight. This was 3.6 percent higher than the PhP98.20 per kilogram, liveweight average farmgate price level in 2018. During the fourth quarter of 2019, the highest average farmgate price was quoted in December at PhP103.55 per kilogram, liveweight, while the lowest was in October at PhP100.10 per kilogram, liveweight. Inventory
As of 01 January 2020, the total inventory of carabao was 0.3 percent, lower than the 2019 record of 2.87 million heads.
Carabao population in backyard farms went down by 0.3 percent, the previous year’s level of 2.86 million heads. On the other hand, stocks in commercial farms build up by 2.7 percent as compared with its previous year’s record of 10.35 thousand heads.
The top three regions in terms of inventory were Bicol Region, Western Visayas and Central Luzon with shares of 11.0 percent,10.2 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively. These regions accounted for 29.3 percent of the country’s total carabao inventory. (Table 2)
