The average farmgate price of cattle for slaughter in April to June 2019 was PhP111.52 per kilogram, liveweight. This was 5.0 percent higher than the average farmgate price of PhP106.24 per kilogram, liveweight in 2018.

During the reference period, the highest average farmgate price was recorded in June at PhP111.70 per kilogram, liveweight, while the lowest was in April at PhP111.29 per kilogram, liveweight. (Table 3)

Inventory

As of 01 July 2019, the total inventory of cattle in the country was estimated at 2.56 million heads. This represents an increase of 0.4 percent compared with the previous year’s stocks of 2.55 million heads.

In backyard farms, cattle inventory at 2.41 million heads increased by 0.4 percent from the previous year’s count of 2.40 million heads. On the other hand, stocks in commercial farms at 153.93 thousand heads decreased by 0.04 percent from the previous year’s count of 154.00 thousand heads.

The top five regions in terms of inventory were Ilocos Region, Central Visayas, CALABARZON, Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao. The combined stocks of these five regions accounted for 52.6 percent of the country’s total cattle inventory. (Table 2)
