The average farmgate price of chicken egg in commercial farms was PhP 5.43 per piece for this quarter. This was -1.3 percent lower than the previous year same quarter quotation of PhP 5.50 per piece. (Figure 4)
During the reference period, the highest farmgate price was recorded in June at PhP 5.62 per piece, while the lowest was quoted in April at PhP 5.32 per piece.
Inventory
Chicken laying flock inventory as of 30 June 2022 was estimated at 65.97 million birds or an increase of 6.0 percent from the 62.22 million birds in the same period last year. Layer chicken grew by 11.0 percent, while native/improved chicken contracted by -2.5 percent. Of the total laying flock, 65.9 percent comprised layer chicken while the remaining 34.1 percent were native/improved chicken. (Figure 2)
In terms of chicken laying flock inventory, the top three regions were CALABARZON, Central Luzon and Central Visayas with a total share of 52.8 percent.
