The City of Tacloban posted the fastest economic growth of 13.8 percent in 2022 among the seven provinces in Eastern Visayas. In addition, City of Tacloban, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar registered growth rates faster than the economic growth of the region at 6.8 percent. (Figure 1)

In 2022, the total value of the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was PhP 492.34 billion, of which almost half or 49.8 percent was contributed by the province of Leyte. This was followed by the province of Samar with 11.8 percent and City of Tacloban with 10.5 percent. On the other hand, the province of Biliran had the least share of the total value of the region’s GDP with 3.3 percent. (Figure 2)

Leyte had the biggest share in Eastern Visayas’ total value of Agriculture, forestry and fishing (AFF) with 34.6 percent share. Followed by Samar and Northern Samar with 22.6 percent and 17.8 percent shares, respectively. (Table 1)
Similarly, Leyte accounted for 68.1 percent of the total value of Industry of the region, which was valued at PhP 199.83 billion in 2022. (Table 1)
Leyte also accounted for the majority of shares to the total value of Services with 38.1 percent. City of Tacloban and Samar followed with shares of 17.0 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively. (Table 1)

In 2023, the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) compilation covers 82 provinces and 17 HUCs across 16 regions in the country. The results covering the period 2018 to 2022 were consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 27 April 2023.
