The year-on-year change of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) continued to climb as it recorded 1.7 percent in August 2016. It went up by 1.5 percent in July 2016, while it decreased by 1.2 percent in August 2015. A faster annual increment of 6.8 percent was registered in reinforcing steel index. On the other hand, slower annual increases were seen in the indices of sand and gravel at 3.5 percent; concrete products, 2.4 percent; hardware, 0.7 percent; plywood, 0.8 percent; electrical works, 0.7 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 1.7 percent. In addition, annual declines were still noted in the indices of lumber at -0.4 percent; G.I. sheet, -2.7 percent; structural steel, -3.7 percent; tileworks, -1.1 percent; doors, jambs, and steel casement, -1.6 percent; painting works, -0.4 percent; and fuels and lubricants, -1.1 percent. While the indices for cement and PVC pipes retaining their previous month’s rates at 2.7 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively, the rest of the commodity groups recorded a flat growth (Table 2).

On a monthly basis, the CMWPI in NCR further decreased by 0.2 percent in August 2016. Last month, it dropped by 0.1 percent. The indices of plywood and fuels and lubricants correspondingly went down by 0.1 percent and 1.8 percent. Moreover, a slower uptick of 0.2 percent was seen in cement index. The rest of the commodity groups had a flat growth during the month (Table 3).
Prices of gasoline, diesel and bunker fuel were lower during the month.
