Year-on-Year
The year-on-year growth of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) was recorded at its last month’s rate of 2.4 percent. Higher annual hikes were noticed in the indices of 13 commodity groups with the sand and gravel index registering the biggest increase of 1.7 percentage points (3.2% from 1.5%). However, slower annual gains were noted in the indices of concrete products; cement; and fuels and lubricants during the month. That for reinforcing steel index remained at 1.2 percent while the indices for asphalt and machinery and equipment rental have zero growth.
Month-on-Month
The CMWPI in NCR moved at its December rate of 0.2 percent. Monthly upticks were noted in cement index at 0.4 percent in January from 0.3 percent in December and tileworks index, 1.6 percent from 0.2 percent. From zero growth, the following indices also went up: sand and gravel, 1.9 percent; lumber, 1.1 percent; G.I sheet, 1.5 percent; structural steel, 0.6 percent; glass and glass products, 1.2 percent; electrical works, 0.4 percent; plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 2.0 percent; PVC pipes, 0.9 percent; and hardware, plywood, reinforcing steel and doors, jambs and steel casement, 0.1 percent. On the other hand, the index for fuels and lubricants registered a 0.2 percent drop while the rest of the commodity groups remained stable as they posted a zero growth.
Upward price adjustments were observed in gravel, sand, cement, plywood, lumber, G.I. sheets, floor tiles, selected hardware items, glass and glass products, door jambs, panel doors, PVC pipes and some electrical works while reductions in the prices of diesel oil were seen during the period.
