CMWPI in NCR continued to move upward during the month

The year-on-year change of CMWPI in NCR picked up further to 4.3 percent in August 2021, from 2.3 percent in July 2021. This was also higher than its annual rate recorded in August 2020 at 1.0 percent. (Tables A and 2)

A double-digit annual increment of 11.5 percent was noted in the index of G.I. sheet during the month, from 2.3 percent annual growth in the previous month.

Annual increases were also higher in the indices of the following commodity groups in August 2021:

a. Concrete products and cement, 0.7 percent;
b. Plywood; lumber; and doors, jambs, and steel casement, each at 2.2 percent;
c. Reinforcing and structural steel, 7.6 percent;
d. Electrical works, 5.6 percent; and
e. Painting works, 1.9 percent.

Meanwhile, annual upticks were slower in the indices of sand and gravel at 3.4 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 17.4 percent.

The rest of the commodity groups either retained their previous month’s annual growth rates or had zero percent annual growth during the month. (Table 2)
