The Food Balance Sheet (FBS), compiled by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), is an aggregated and analytical data set that presents a comprehensive picture of the pattern of a country’s food supply during a specified reference period. It provides estimates of per capita food available for human consumption in terms of quantity, calories, protein, and fat contents.

The per capita supply of calories from the aggregated food products was recorded at 2,424.15 kilocalories per day in 2019. This was -3.2 percent lower than the previous year’s level.  For cereals (excluding beer), the daily per capita calorie supply was 1,476.79 kilocalories or an increase of 3.8 percent this year.  Cereals continued to be the major source of calories which accounted for 60.9 percent of the total daily per capita food supply of calories.

Proteins
In 2019, the daily per capita food supply of protein went up to 81.75 grams or by 1.8 percent. Cereals (excluding beer), meat, and fish and seafood had the biggest shares in the total daily per capita food supply of protein with 39.9 percent, 22.1 percent, and 20.5 percent, respectively.

Fats

Self-Sufficiency Ratio (SSR)
The country’s self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) for the aggregated food products was recorded at 81.3 percent in 2019. This means that 81.3 percent of the total food supply was sourced from domestic production.

Import Dependency Ratio (IDR)
