March 1, 1937 - the formal inauguration was held. Late 70's - the logging industry declined and focused on the banana industry. The province then became the largest exporter of banana. Early 80's - the city that was called the "sleeping city" was distracted by guerillas and leftist. From time to time, killing on the streets became an ordinary event in the city. 1985 - Davaoeños formed a vigilante group called "Alsa Masa" to drive away the guerillas from the city. After so many problems encountered by the city, still the people make ways to be recognized and proud. It is now one of the fastest growing cities in the Philippines.
