A. Fisheries production increased by 1.5 percent in the first quarter of 2025
The total volume of fisheries production in the first quarter of 2025 was registered at 1.01 million metric tons, indicating an increase of 1.5 percent from the 0.99 million metric tons output in the same quarter of the previous year. Increases in production were noted in inland municipal fisheries and aquaculture, while commercial and marine municipal fisheries posted a production decline during the quarter. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

During the first quarter of 2025, commercial fisheries production of 183.35 thousand metric tons registered a 5.4 percent decline from the 193.87 thousand metric tons output a year ago. The subsector comprised 18.2 percent of the total fisheries production. (Figure 2 and Table 1)

The marine municipal fisheries volume of production was estimated at 196.12 thousand metric tons. The volume was reduced by 6.5 percent from the same quarter of the previous year’s output of 209.83 thousand metric tons. The subsector’s share to the total fisheries production was 19.5 percent. (Figure 3 and Table 1)

The inland municipal fisheries volume of production was recorded at 52.63 thousand metric tons. This indicates an increment of 30.7 percent from the same quarter of 2024 output of 40.25 thousand metric tons. The subsector contributed 5.2 percent to the total fisheries production in the first quarter of 2025. (Figure 4 and Table 1)

The total harvests from aquaculture farms were reported at 573.28 thousand metric tons. This was higher by 4.9 percent compared with the previous year’s output of 546.76 thousand metric tons. The aquaculture subsector constituted the highest share of 57.0 percent to the total fisheries production during the quarter. (Figure 5 and Table 1)

Of the 21 major species, increments were primarily noted in seaweed (5.6%), milkfish (bangus, 7.8%), tilapia (2.2%), and indian mackerel (alumahan, 14.5%). (Table 2)
On the other hand, output reductions were mainly reported in skipjack (gulyasan, -9.2%), roundscad (galunggong, -14.7%), fimbriated sardines (tunsoy, -34.5%), and frigate tuna (tulingan, -11.4%). (Table 2)
