It was the 11th census of population and 5th census of housing undertaken in this country since the first census in 1903. Being a highly urbanized city, the population of General Santos City was excluded in the population counts of South Cotabato. As defined in the 1991 Local Government Code, a city is considered highly urbanized if it has an annual income of not lower than fifty million pesos based on 1991 constant prices, as certified by the city treasurer; and its population is at least two hundred thousand (200,000) inhabitants, as certified by NSO. |
