GWPI

1. GWPI at the national level moved up at a slower pace in November 2022

The annual increase of GWPI at the national level slowed down further to 7.2 percent in November 2022. Its annual rate in October 2022 was posted at 7.6 percent, and in November 2021, 4.2 percent. (Tables A and 1a)

The lower annual growth in GWPI in the country was primarily brought about by the downtrend in the heavily-weighted index of food at 12.3 percent in November 2022.

Moreover, compared with their respective annual increases in October 2022, slower annual increments were posted in the indices of beverages and tobacco at 7.9 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 25.9 percent; and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 2.5 percent.

Meanwhile, higher annual uptick was exhibited in the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles at 3.8 percent. The annual decline recorded in the index of crude materials, inedible except fuels at -18.2 percent in November 2022 was lower compared with its annual drop of -18.6 percent in October 2022.

The indices of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials and machinery and transport equipment retained their respective October 2022 annual growth rates of 4.2 percent and 1.2 percent. (Table 1a)

2. GWPI for Luzon also picked up at a slower rate in November 2022

Similar to the trend at the national level, the annual hike of GWPI for Luzon eased to 7.4 percent in November 2022, from an annual rate of 7.8 percent in October 2022. Its annual change in November 2021 was recorded at 4.3 percent. (Tables A and 2a)

The lower year-on-year increment of GWPI in Luzon was primarily caused by the slower annual increase in the heavily-weighted food index at 12.8 percent in November 2022. In addition, annual increments were lower in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

a. Beverages and tobacco, 7.5 percent;
b. Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 26.8 percent;
c. Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 2.0 percent; and
d. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 4.4 percent.

On the other hand, annual increase was higher in the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles at 4.1 percent in November 2022. Moreover, the annual drop of -20.1 percent registered in the index of crude materials, inedible except fuels in November 2022 was lower relative to its October 2022 decline of -20.6 percent.

The machinery and transport equipment index retained its previous month’s annual growth rate of 1.3 percent. (Table 2a)

3. Annual increment of GWPI for Visayas eased in November 2022

The year-on-year growth rate of GWPI for Visayas slid to 6.5 percent in November 2022, from 6.6 percent in October 2022. Its annual growth rate was registered at 1.4 percent in November 2021. (Tables A and 3a)

Moreover, the annual uptick in the index of food slipped at 10.8 percent. An annual drop was still noted in the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles at -0.7 percent.

Meanwhile, annual increments in November 2022 were higher in the indices of beverages and tobacco at 9.4 percent and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats at 8.6 percent.

The annual growth rates remained at their respective October 2022 levels in the indices of the rest of the commodity groups. (Table 3a)

The annual growth rate of GWPI for Mindanao, likewise, eased to 4.8 percent in November 2022, from 4.9 percent in October 2022. Its annual growth rate in November 2021 was registered at 5.0 percent. (Tables A and 4a)

The heavily-weighted food recorded an annual growth rate of 5.8 percent in November 2022, primarily driving the lower annual increment of GWPI for Mindanao. In addition, annual reduction was noted in the index of beverages and tobacco at 12.6 percent.
