  • The population of Region XI - Davao Region as of 01 May 2020 is 5,243,536 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). This accounts for about 4.81 percent of the Philippine population in 2020.
     

  • The 2020 population of the region is higher by 350,218 from the population of 4.89 million in 2015, and 774,973 more than the population of 4.47 million in 2010. Moreover, it is higher by 1,567,373 compared with the population of 3.68 million in 2000. (Table 1)

  • The population of Region XI increased by 1.46 percent annually from 2015 to 2020. By comparison, the rate at which the population of the region grew from 2010 to 2015 was higher at 1.74 percent (Table 2)

  • Among the five provinces comprising Region XI, Davao del Norte had the biggest population in 2020 with 1,125,057 persons, followed by Davao de Oro (Compostela Valley) with 767,547 persons, Davao del Sur with 680,481 persons, and Davao Oriental with 576,343 persons. Davao Occidental had the smallest population with 317,159 persons. (Table 3)
     

  • The City of Davao, the only highly urbanized city in the region posted a population of 1,776,949 persons.

  • Davao del Norte was the fastest growing province in the region with an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.16 percent from 2015 to 2020. It was followed by Davao del Sur with a PGR of 1.55 percent, Davao de Oro (Compostela Valley) with 0.88 percent, and Davao Oriental (0.65 percent). Davao Occidental posted the lowest provincial PGR of 0.05 percent. (Table 4)
     

  • The City of Davao posted a PGR of 1.79 percent.

  • Region XI is composed of one highly urbanized city, five component cities, 43 municipalities, and 1,162 barangays.
     

  • Among the cities (excluding the City of Davao) and municipalities in the region, the largest in terms of population size is the City of Tagum, Davao del Norte with 296,202 persons. It was followed by the City of Panabo, Davao del Norte with 209,230 persons, and the City of Digos, Davao del Sur with 188,376 persons. (Table 5)

  • Boston in Davao Oriental is the least populous city/municipality in Region XI with 14,618 persons. It was followed by Sarangani (22,515 persons) in Davao Occidental, and Tarragona (26,996 persons) in Davao Oriental. (Table 6)

  • Of the 1,162 barangays in Region XI, the largest in terms of population size is Bucana in the City of Davao with 80,538 persons. It was followed by Buhangin (Pob.) with 67,515 persons, and Talomo (Pob.) with 61,698 persons, both in the City of Davao. The rest of the top ten most populous barangays in the region are all located in the City of Davao, except Tibal-og (Pob.) in Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte and Visayan Village in the City of Tagum, Davao del Norte, which were ranked eighth and ninth, respectively.
