NOVEMBER MERCHANDISE EXPORTS EXPAND BY 29.8 PERCENT

Revenue from merchandise exports for November 1996 increased by 29.8 percent or by $423.48 million to $1.846 billion from $1.423 billion during the same month in 1995. This is the highest year- on-year growth so far for exports in 1996. Compared to last month, however, a 2.0 percent seasonal drop from the October value placed at $1.884 billion was noted.

Cumulative receipts for the first eleven months amounted to $18.656 billion, up by 17.9 percent from $15.826 billion last year.

REVENUE FROM ELECTRONICS AND COMPONENTS UP BY 57.0 PERCENT

Receipts from Electronics and Components, accounting for 42.6 percent of the total, increased by 57.0 percent to $786.56 million from $500.94 million the previous year. This increase enabled this commodity group to maintain its hold of the top spot, despite a 0.8 percent dip from the October value posted at $780.59 million.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories meanwhile remained as the second biggest dollar earner as purchases reached $188.89 million, up by 8.1 percent from $174.69 million in 1995. This merchandise group accounted for 10.2 percent of the total receipts.

Receipts from Input/Output Peripheral Units, the third biggest export for the month, went up by 501.9 percent to $77.04 million from $12.80 million a year ago. This commodity group contributed 4.2 percent of the total exports.

Ignition Wiring Set and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircrafts and Ships, accounting for 2.7 percent of the total, earned $50.13 million, an increase of $16.87 million or 50.7 percent over 1995's $33.26 million.

Woodcraft and Furniture, the fifth biggest earner, contributed $37.62 million for a 31.7 percent mark-up over last year's $28.56 million.

Coconut Oil reported aggregate receipts of $36.33 million, down by 43.9 percent from 1995's $64.71 million and by 25.2 percent from October's $48.54 million.

Other top exports were: Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis, $35.31 million; Metal Components, $22.97 million; Fresh Bananas, $22.06 million; and Gold, $20.02 million.

Combined income from the top ten exports reached $1.277 billion, representing 69.2 percent of the total revenue for November.

RECEIPTS FROM MANUFACTURED GOODS UP BY 42.1 PERCENT

Value of Manufactured Goods exports for November, which accounted for 87.2 percent of the total, went up by 42.1 percent to $1.609 billion from $1.132 billion last year.

Receipts from Agro-Based Products was the second biggest export commodity group earning $156.286 million, up by 5.8 percent from $147.650 million a year ago. Agro-based products include, among others, products of coconut, sugar, fruits and vegetables and have an 8.5 percent share of total exports in November 1996.

US SHARE OF RP'S EXPORTS AT 30.5 PERCENT

The United States, accounting for 30.5 percent of the aggregate earning for November, posted a 13.5 percent increase in payments for locally-made commodities. Actual receipts amounted to $562.67 million or $66.90 million higher than last year's $495.77 million.

Japan remained as the second biggest market with receipts reaching $350.70 million, up by 41.3 percent from 1995's $248.18 million. Value of exports to this country accounted for 19.0 percent of the total.

Singapore, the third biggest market for the month in review, reported payments amounting to $171.22 million, or 9.3 percent of the total.

Netherlands, the fourth biggest destination with purchases amounting to $134.09 million, registered a 65.1 percent increase over the 1995 level of $81.22 million.

Completing the list of the top markets for November 1996 were: Malaysia, $91.85 million; Hongkong, $79.18 million; Thailand, $64.90 million; Germany, $64.87 million; United Kingdom of Great Britain, $61.50 million; and Taiwan, $58.25 million.

Earnings from these top ten buyers amounted to $1,639.23 million or 88.8 percent of the total revenue for November 1996.
