- Value of Production Index grows in August 2016
Value of Production Index (VaPI) rose to 8.4 percent in August 2016, a reversal from the negative growth of 5.8 percent during the same month of last year, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). The increase was brought about by the expansion in VaPI for 13 major sectors, with two-digit growth observed in eight major sectors, namely: transport equipment (37.4%), rubber and plastic products (36.9%), basic metals (33.4%), beverages (21.3%), machinery except electrical (18.4%), food manufacturing (13.3%), tobacco products (12.1%), and wood and wood products (10.3%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index sustains positive growth
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) gained further as it posted a significant increase of 13.5 percent in August 2016. Among the 15 major sectors reporting increases, nine significantly influenced the growth, namely: machinery except electrical (44.7%), basic metals (40.8%), rubber and plastic products (40.8%), transport equipment (38.7%), beverages (16.1%), wood and wood products (13.2%), tobacco products (11.9%), food manufacturing (11.1%), and footwear and wearing apparel (10.9%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index rebounds
Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) went up by 6.4 percent, recovering from a negative 7.5 percent in August 2015. The growth was due to the favorable performance of 13 major sectors, with double-digit increases noted in six major sectors, namely: basic metals (35.1%), wood and wood products (29.8%), machinery except electrical (24.0%), beverages (23.8%), rubber and plastic products (20.7%), and food manufacturing (13.0%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index exhibits two-digit growth
Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) grew by 11.4 percent in August 2016 compared with a minimal increase of 0.4 percent during the same month of last year. Major sectors that largely contributed to the expansion in VoNSI were machinery except electrical (51.6%), basic metals (42.5%), wood and wood products (33.1%), rubber and plastic products (24.0%), beverages (18.5%), furniture and fixtures (16.7%), leather products (13.3%), food manufacturing (10.8%), and petroleum products (10.7%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
- Average Capacity Utilization Rate in August 2016 is 83.6 percent with basic metals posting the highest among industries
Average capacity utilization rate in June 2016 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.6 percent. Fifty-five percent or 11 of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These were:
- basic metals (88.4%)
- petroleum products (88.3%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.5%)
- machinery except electrical (85.3%)
- food manufacturing (84.5%)
- electrical machinery (84.5%)
- chemical products (84.4%)
- paper and paper products (83.2%)
- rubber and plastic products (83.0%)
- wood and wood products (81.0%)
- printing (80.2%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 23.5 percent in August 2016. About 58.3 percent of the establishments operated at 70 percent to 89 percent capacity while 18.2 percent of the establishments operated below 70 percent capacity. Refer to Table B and 6.
