- Value of Production Index gains in June 2017
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for manufacturing posted year-on-year increase of 5.1 percent in June 2017, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). The growth was mainly due to the improved performance of 14 major sectors, led by footwear and wearing apparel with a three-digit growth of 338.6 percent. Other significant increases were reported by the following: fabricated metal products (24.8%), leather products (20.3%), petroleum products (19.8%), wood and wood products (19.6%), basic metals (19.2%), electrical machinery (17.1%), transport equipment (15.3%), food manufacturing (15.0%), paper and paper products (15.0%) and printing (12.5%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index increase
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) likewise increased, registering an annual growth of 8.1 percent in June 2017. Two of the fourteen major sectors showed robust growth in VoPI, namely: footwear and wearing apparel (340.4%) and fabricated metal products (154.2%). The other major sectors with significant increases in production are: leather products (48.1%), electrical machinery (19.6%), wood and wood products (19.5%), basic metals (18.5%), transport equipment (17.7%), food manufacturing (17.3%), paper and paper products (17.0%), furniture and fixtures (15.6%) non-metallic mineral products (11.6%) and petroleum products (10.6%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index weakens
Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) declined in June 2017 as it reported a decrease of 3.6 percent from the 5.0 percent during the same month of the previous year. Three major sectors exhibited double-digit decreases in VaNSI led by chemical products (-46.4%), followed by tobacco products (-12.6%) and non-metallic mineral products (-10.7%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index decreases
Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) posted year-on-year decrease of 0.9 percent in June 2017. The major contributing factor was the significant decrease in VoNSI exhibited by chemical products at negative 45.5 percent. Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
- Average Capacity Utilization Rate in June 2017 is 83.8 percent with petroleum products posting the highest among industries
Average capacity utilization rate in June 2017 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.8 percent. Sixty percent or 12 of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These are:
- petroleum products (88.7%)
- basic metals (88.6%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.6%)
- machinery except electrical (85.5%)
- electrical machinery (84.6%)
- food manufacturing (84.8%)
- chemical products (83.8%)
- paper and paper products (83.6%)
- rubber and plastic products (82.8%)
- wood and wood products (81.5%)
- printing (80.5%)
- footwear and wearing apparel (80.5%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was recorded at almost one-fourth of the total number of establishments (24.6%) in June 2017. Around 56 percent of the total establishments operated at 70 percent to 89 percent capacity while almost one-fifth of the total establishments (19.8%) operated below 70 percent capacity. Refer to Table B and 6.
