- Value of Production Index expands at two-digit rate in November 2016
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for manufacturing picked up by 10.6 percent in November 2016 from the negative 2.2 percent during the same month of last year, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Among the 10 major sectors reporting increments in VaPI, seven major sectors significantly contributed to the increases, namely: petroleum products (68.8%), transport equipment (39.1%), food manufacturing (26.7%) and beverages (15.1%), rubber and plastic products (14.2%), tobacco products (11.3%) and textiles (10.4%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index also accelerates
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) likewise, recorded a year-on-year growth of 14.6 percent in November 2016 compared with 4.4 percent increase during the same month last year. Significant expansion in VoPI was observed in six sectors led by petroleum products with an increase of 80.3 percent. Other sectors with two-digit annual rates were transport equipment (40.4%), food manufacturing (24.6%), rubber and plastic products (16.1%), tobacco products (11.1%) and beverages (10.3%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index rises
Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) increased 5.6 percent, recording a reversal from the negative rate of 5.8 percent in November 2015. Sectors that largely contributed to the growth in VaNSI were observed in the following: wood and wood products (32.3%), machinery except electrical (26.1%), rubber and plastic products (15.7%), basic metals (13.3%), textiles (11.1%) and food manufacturing (10.1%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index further gains
Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) went up by 9.4 percent in November 2016 compared with a minimal increase of 0.4 percent during the same month of last year. The increase was brought about by the expanded output performance of 13 major sectors, with significant increases noted in seven sectors, namely: machinery except electrical (42.4%), wood and wood products (27.0%), basic metals (20.5%), rubber and plastic products (17.5%), petroleum products (16.4%), textiles (10.3%) and furniture and fixtures (10.2%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
- Average Capacity Utilization Rate in November 2016 is 83.8 percent with petroleum products posting the highest among industries
Average capacity utilization rate in November 2016 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.8 percent. Fifty-five percent or 11 of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These were:
- petroleum products (88.6%)
- basic metals (88.3%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.3%)
- machinery except electrical (85.4%)
- food manufacturing (85.1%)
- chemical products (85.0%)
- electrical machinery (84.5%)
- paper and paper products (83.5%)
- rubber and plastic products (83.0%)
- wood and wood products (80.9%)
- printing (80.4%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was recorded more than one-fifth of the total number of establishments (23.7%) in November 2016. About 58.1 percent of the establishments operated at 70 percent to 89 percent capacity while 18.2 percent of the establishments operated below 70 percent capacity. Refer to Table B and 6.
