On The National IDs Found In A Dumpsite In Catbalogan City, Samar
Upon receiving reports on National ID cards found in a dumpsite in Catbalogan City, Samar, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) immediately launched an investigation and retrieved the 32 IDs of registered persons for safekeeping.
The agency considers this incident contained and shall contact the individuals affected as soon as possible for the card delivery following security protocols.
We reiterate that the PSA strictly upholds data privacy and security in the delivery of National ID cards. Following this incident, the agency is in coordination with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) on this incident to ensure individuals found negligent in their duties are held responsible and accountable, in compliance with the Data Privacy Act and the Philippine Identification System Act.
The public is reminded that the unauthorized use and possession of a National ID by another person is punishable under the law.
