p align="JUSTIFY"bAnnual PGR increased to 2.19 percent/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The total population of Olongapo City as of August 1, 2007 was 227,270 persons, an increase of 33,010 persons over its total population of 194,260 persons in 2000. The total population in 2007 represented an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.19 percent for the period 2000 to 2007, or an increase of 0.51 percentage point from the PGR registered for the period 1995 to 2000. The annual population growth rate of the city for the period 1995 to 2000 was 1.68 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSanta Rita was most populous barangay/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of this highly urbanized city's 17 barangays, Barangay Santa Rita registered the highest population with a share of 17.6 percent of the city's total population in 2007. It was followed by Gordon Heights (11.7 percent), New Cabalan (10.0 percent), and Old Cabalan (8.8 percent). Old Cabalan was considered the fastest growing barangay in terms of population size with a PGR of 6.95 percent during the period 2000 to 2007. New Ilalim was the least populated barangay./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0953f1.gif" style="width: 288px; height: 299px;" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bAverage household size remained at 4.5 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households increased by 7,193 from 43,107 in 2000 to 50,300 in 2007. Similarly, the household population increased to 226,184 persons in 2007 from 193,752 persons in 2000. The average household size was 4.5 persons in 2007, same as the average household size recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSex ratio was 98 males for every 100 females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the city's 226,184 household population, females (50.6 percent) slightly outnumbered their male counterparts (49.4 percent) with a sex ratio of 98 males for every 100 females. In 2000, there was also a higher proportion of females (50.8 percent) than males (49.2 percent) with a sex ratio of 97 males per 100 females./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0953f2.gif" style="width: 294px; height: 287px;" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age was 23/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Olongapo City had a median age of 23 years in 2007, which meant that half of the city's household population were below 23 years old. This figure was one year higher than the recorded median age of 22 years in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"About one in every three persons (32.7 percent) were under 15 years old, with the highest share noted in age group 5-9 years (11.4 percent), followed closely by those under 5 years (11.1 percent), and age group 10-14 years (10.2 percent). Females dominated the household population in age groups 15-34 years and 40 years and over, while males outnumbered the females in the rest of the age groups./p p align="JUSTIFY"bProportion of voting-age population increased to 61.0 percent/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The voting-age population (18 years and over) in 2007 accounted for 61.0 percent of the household population, which was 1.4 percentage points higher than the proportion of voting-age population (59.6 percent) recorded in 2000. The proportion of female voters (52.1 percent) was higher than that of the male voters (47.9 percent) in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAbout 57 dependents for every 100 working-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of young dependents (0 to 14 years) to household population was 32.7 percent while the old dependents (65 years and over) posted a share of 3.5 percent. The working-age population (15 to 64 years) accounted for 63.8 percent of the household population./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio was 56.8, which indicated that for every 100 working-age population, there were about 57 dependents (51 young dependents and 6 old dependents). The overall dependency ratio in 2007 was lower than the corresponding ratio of 60 dependents per 100 persons in the working age group obtained in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMajority of single persons were males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, about 45.2 percent of the household population 10 years old and over were single and 37.7 percent were married. Comparing these with the 2000 figures, a lower proportion of single (42.3 percent) but higher proportion of married (42.6 percent) persons was observed in 2000. The rest (17.1 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 were either widowed, divorced/separated, had common-law/live-in arrangement, or had unknown marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"More than half (51.7 percent) of single household population 10 years old and over were males. The rest of the categories for marital status were dominated by females./p p align="JUSTIFY"bFemales tend to pursue higher education than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the total household population 5 years old and over, 24.4 percent attended or completed elementary education, 40.5 percent reached high school, 10.2 percent were college undergraduate, and 9.6 percent were academic degree holders. Majority of the academic degree holders (54.8 percent) and those with post baccalaureate courses (56.7 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, 65.2 percent of the household population 5 to 24 years old attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. More than half (51.7 percent) of the household population 5 to 24 years old who attended school during School Year 2007 to 2008 were males./p p align="JUSTIFY"bRatio of households per 100 occupied housing units increased to 103/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The total occupied housing units in Olongapo City numbered 49,041 in 2007, which translated to a ratio of 103 households per 100 occupied housing units. In 2000, the ratio was 102 households for every 100 occupied housing units. The same average number of persons (4.6 persons) per occupied housing unit was recorded in 2000 and 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMost of the housing units were made of strong materials/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Most of the occupied housing units in the city had outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone (69.6 percent) in 2007. This figure represented an increase of 14.3 percentage points from the proportion of occupied housing units with concrete/brick/stone as materials of the outer walls (55.3 percent) posted in 2000.
