A total of 1,052,861 Filipinos have successfully registered through the online Step 1 Registration of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), according to the latest count of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on 17 May 2021. The online registration for Step 1 aims to register more Filipinos to the PhilSys while minimizing health and safety risks.

PSA Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa, Ph.D., National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, extends his gratitude to Filipinos who continue to participate in this step and recounts PSA’s goal of providing a valid proof of identification to all Filipinos.

"This is yet another milestone in implementing this national priority program that will usher our country to a digital society. We are grateful for the patience and trust of Filipinos who registered, even though we encountered technical difficulties when we started the pilot. With the support of our citizens, we remain optimistic that we can register 50 to 70-million Filipinos to the PhilSys this year," said Undersecretary Mapa.

The PSA also continues to make significant improvements on the website by implementing user-testing strategies as a safety measure to ensure that the site can accommodate the surge of users and heavy traffic at any given point of the day.

The Step 2 Registration will soon be rolled out in all provinces. This step involves validating the demographic information and capturing a registrant’s biometric data such as their iris scans, fingerprint scans, and front-facing photograph at designated local registration centers.

The final step to PhilSys is the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN) and the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card in partnership with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost). The PSN is a randomly generated number that will serve as a permanent identification number for the registrants, which must be kept private and confidential. To protect the permanent PSN when transacting, registrants are highly encouraged to use the PhilSys Card Number (PCN), the public version of the PSN which is printed in front of the PhilID.
