The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) brings the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 Registration experience closer to Filipinos after sealing a partnership with SM Prime Holdings, Inc. through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 14 June 2021 at SM Aura Premier in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. This partnership officially established the nationwide participation of SM Supermalls in the rollout of PhilSys registrations.

“[This] MOU will further the formidable partnership between PSA and SM Supermalls through a joint and cooperative initiative to register all Filipino citizens and resident aliens to the official National Identity Card,” said Steven T. Tan, Shopping Center Management Corporation President, during the signing of the partnership.

The SM Supermalls has made Step 2 Registration centers available in 13 select branches across Metro Manila and Luzon. In cooperation with PSA regional offices, registration centers will be available in additional SM mall branches in the coming weeks.

President Tan also assured that SM Supermalls will continue to make its branches safe and orderly for registrants who will complete their registration.

PSA Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, reiterated the importance of establishing a National ID system. “This PhilID is a very important undertaking of the government. This is a game changer. This is a foundational proof of identity,” he said. “[This will not only give them a foundational identification], but this will also open opportunities. Our main objective is to provide seamless transactions to our kababayans. At the same time, this will give them opportunities to be included in financial systems [and open bank accounts].”

PSA and SM Supermalls look forward to celebrating this great contribution to deliver PhilSys to the public by gradually opening more registration centers in the weeks to come.

With PhilSys, public and private transactions will be made seamless, safe, and efficient through a singular and formal identification system. PhilSys will also boost and ease the delivery of services by improving the public’s access to financial, social protection, health, education, and other government services.
