Population of National Capital Region (NCR) increased at the rate of 1.78 percent annually

Based on the 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH), the NCR posted a total population of 11,855,975 persons as of May 1, 2010.  This is larger by 1,923,415 persons compared to its total population of 9,932,560 persons counted in the 2000 CPH.  The increase in the population count from 2000 to 2010 translated to an average annual population growth rate (PGR) of 1.78 percent. This is lower than the 2.25 percent annual PGR of the region between the census years 1990 and 2000.

If the average annual PGR recorded at 1.78 percent during the period 2000 to 2010 continues, the population of NCR would double in 39 years.

Fifty years ago, the population of NCR was only 2,462,488 persons.  The population size is more than one fifth of the population of the region in the 2010 CPH.

Quezon City was the most populous area in the region

Among the lone municipality and 16 cities comprising the NCR, Quezon City was the most populous with a population size making up 23.3 percent of the total regional population.  The City of Manila came in second with 13.9 percent, followed by Caloocan City with 12.6 percent, City of Pasig with 5.6 percent, Taguig City with 5.4 percent, and City of Parañaque with 5.0 percent.  The rest of the cities/municipality contributed less than 5.0 percent each.

The least populated area was the municipality of Pateros with 0.5 percent share to the total population of the region.  It was also the least populated area in 2000.

Sex ratio was 96 males per 100 females

Of the 11,796,873 household population in 2010, females accounted for 51.0 percent while males comprised 49.0 percent.  These figures resulted in a sex ratio of 96 males for every 100 females.  In 2000, the recorded sex ratio was the same as that in 2010.

Across the region, the City of Navotas posted the highest sex ratio of 102 males per 100 females, followed by the City of Valenzuela with a sex ratio of 101 males per 100 females.  In contrast, the City of San Juan recorded the lowest sex ratio of 82 males per 100 females.
