  •    Producer Price Index maintains negative rate

Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for the manufacturing industry registered a decline of 8.9 percent in March 2013 from negative 9.3 percent in February 2013, compared with the year ago level, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Producer Price Survey. This was influenced by the significant decrements posted by six sectors, namely: furniture and fixtures (-36.2%), rubber and plastic products (-12.9%), machinery except electrical (-12.5%), basic metals (-12.4%), petroleum products  (-11.1%) and food manufacturing (-10.5%). On the other hand, increases in the PPI were noted in seven major sectors led by printing (15.7%). Refer to Tables 1 and A-1.

On a month-on-month basis, PPI reflected a minimal increase of 0.1 percent in March 2013. This was brought about by increases posted by six sectors led by transport equipment with a growth of 0.8 percent. On the other hand, six sectors reflected decreases in PPI. Eight major sectors posted flat growths indicating stable producer prices in these industries.  Refer to Tables 1 and A-2
