· Producer Price Index (PPI) maintains uptrend
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry posted higher growth of 1.7 percent in September 2007. Among the 20 major sectors, publishing and printing and basic metals led the increases with double-digit growth of 20.9 percent and 15.2 percent, respectively. On the other hand, eight (8) major sectors registered year-on-year decreases in producer price with two-digit decreases reported by furniture and fixtures (-13.6%) and miscellaneous manufactures (-10.1%). Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
On a monthly basis, PPI managed to grow at a slower rate of 0.1 percent from a decline of 0.4 percent in August 2007. The turnaround was due to the resulting increase in producer price of commodities in sixteen(16) major sectors, with price increases reported in the following: machinery excluding electrical, non-metallic mineral products, petroleum products, chemical products, leather products, miscellaneous manufactures, basic metals and food manufacturing. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
· Response Rate
The response rate for September 2007 is 86.2 percent, which corresponds to the retrieval of 263 sample establishments reports. Refer to Table 2.

· Technical Notes
Beginning the 2007 monthly issues, the 2000 based series of the PPI are released simultaneously with the 1994 based series. The 2000 based series for 2001 to 2006 were earlier made available in a separate Special Release.
Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
