The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) clears the conduct of 2020 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS). The OWS is a biennial survey which aims to generate statistics on wage and salary administration and wage determination in collective bargaining negotiations.

The survey will cover a total of 12,507 establishments nationwide. A total budget amounting to PhP 792.9 thousand will be utilized for the maintenance and other operating expenses. The conduct of the survey will be conducted from 05 October to 30 December 2020 and the results are expected to be released in September 2021.

Meanwhile, key results from the 2018 OWS are as follows:

  • Among the various time-rated workers on full-time basis, aircraft pilots, navigators and flight engineers in air transport received the highest average monthly wage rate with PhP128,348 per month in 2018.
  • Other highly paid occupations in 2018 included mathematicians and actuaries in insurance, reinsurance and pension funding except compulsory social security (PhP 62,237); chemical engineers in manufacturing of coke and refined petroleum products (PhP 58,496) and systems analysts in computer programming, consultancy and related activities, as well as in information service activities ranked (PhP 54,381).
  • Female time-rated workers received a little higher median monthly basic pay of PhP13,719 compared to PhP13,481 received by male in 2018 for all industries.

The 2020 OWS was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  • ensure sound design for data collection,
  • minimize the burden placed upon respondents,
  • effect economy in statistical data collection,
  • eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts, and
  • achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins establishments to participate in the said survey.
