The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the 2022 Corporate Financial Trends Survey (CFTS) by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The CFTS is a statistical initiative designed to improve the BSP's monitoring of financing trends and provide a better understanding of the non-financial corporate (NFC) sector’s financial condition in terms of firm-level: (a) borrowing activity; (b) profitability, liquidity and, solvency; and (c) sources and uses of funds. The information generated from the survey will be used in establishing a corporate database that will aid in formulating better policies necessary to maintain a stable financial system that is conducive to strong and sustainable economic growth.

The survey aims to gather data from various non-financial corporations in the country. Major data items to be collected in the survey are the following:

  1. Total assets, liabilities, and equities (accounts and levels);

  2. Sources and Uses of funds;

  3. Currency Mismatch (Assets vs. Liabilities);

  4. Debt-to-Equity (DE) Ratio; and its distribution across different sectors;

  5. Debt by Type of Financing;

  6. Debt by Type of Interest Rate and Maturity to Total Debt;

  7. Distribution of Debt by Sector and Currency;

  8. Total Debt by Type of Interest Rate and Currency;

  9. Hedged Exposures;

  10. Total Revenue and Net Income (accounts and levels); and

  11. Liquidity and Profitability Ratios (i.e., Current Ratio, Interest Coverage Ratio, Return on Assets, Return on Equity).

The 2022 CFTS will collect data from 333 corporations (181 MSMEs and 152 large enterprises) from the 2019 Business World (BW) List of the Top 1,000 Corporations and the Bureau van Dijk Database. Questionnaires will be distributed and collected from October 2022 to March 2023. The survey results are expected to be released in July 2023.

This survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;

  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;

  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;

  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and

  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins enterprises from the top 1,000 corporations included in the 2019 Edition of BW List and and the Bureau van Dijk Database to support the 2022 CFTS by providing the needed information.
