The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) approves the conduct of the National Survey on Mental Health and Well-being (NSMHW) Phase II. The survey will be conducted by the University of the Philippines - Manila (UPM) in cooperation with the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD).

The PSA granted a clearance extension to the previously approved NSMHW questionnaires. Data collection activities for the NSMHW Phase II which was originally scheduled on 16 March 2020 to November 2020 but did not push through due to community-wide quarantine brought about by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The results of the NSMHW will be used to estimate the national and regional lifetime and 12-month prevalence of selected Mental, Neurological, and Substance use of (MNS) disorders among Filipinos. Further, the survey will determine the impact of these conditions as well as the health services utilization among those with MNS disorders.

Aside from the previously approved questionnaires, there are additional survey questionnaires that have data items on COVID-19. These questionnaires will determine the following:

a. Impact of COVID-19 on adult population;
b. Impact of COVID-19 on child and adolescent (4-5 years old);
c. Impact of COVID-19 on child and Adolescent (6 -17 years old); and
d. Socio-demographic profile and health service utilization.

The Phase II survey will collect data from 3,480 households and 7,328 individuals from May until June 2021 in Regions I, IV-A, V, NCR, VI, VII, XI, and IX.

A total budget amounting to PhP 39.8 million will be utilized in the survey. The results of the survey are targeted to be released in July 2021.
This survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:

a. ensure sound design for data collection;
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
c. effect economy in statistical data collection;
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the public to support the said survey.
