The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the 2022 Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) by the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

The 2022 ENNS is a special survey that aims to compare nutrition and health indicators before and during the latter part of the pandemic and to provide empirical data at the national level on the nutritional and health status of Filipinos for planning nutrition and development programs and policies. Specifically, the survey aims to:

  1. determine the changes in the physical growth and dimensions of children and other population groups using anthropometric indicators;
  2. determine the changes in the nutrition biomarkers of children and other population groups;
  3. compare the prevalence of non - communicable disease risk factors of 10 years old and above;
  4. determine the changes in energy and nutrient intake at the individual level;
  5. determine the magnitude of food insecurity and coping mechanisms among households;
  6. determine the feeding practices of infants and young children, 0-24 months;
  7. determine the changes in maternal nutrition and health status in mothers with children aged 0-36 months and pregnant women;
  8. describe the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the households and individuals;
  9. evaluate the association of different risk factors to nutrition and health status;
  10. determine awareness, knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy (AKAS) on health eating; and
  11. determine the knowledge and awareness on trans fatty acid among individual members, 18 years and above.

The survey will utilize a total budget of PhP 348.9 million to interview about 30,000 households and 140,000 individuals from 20 provinces/highly urbanized cities (HUCs) from July to December 2022. Results of the survey is scheduled to be released in December 2023.

This survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the public to support and participate in the 2022 ENNS by providing the required information.
