The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) clears the conduct of the 2023 National Household Survey on the Patterns and Trends of Drug Abuse. The survey will be conducted by a third-party organization as commissioned by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).
The survey aims to determine the magnitude of the drug problem nationwide and estimate the number of lifetime and current drug users.
Results of the survey will be used as inputs for various antidrug initiatives, programs, and policies to curb the drug abuse problem in the country.
The data items to be collected in the survey include:
- Demographic profile including data on age, sex/sexual orientation, religion, highest educational attainment, civil status, employment status, socio-economic class, and type of place of residence;
- Patterns and characteristics of drug use with data on use of drugs, type of drug used, reasons for use, channels of purchase, amount per serving, help seeking behavior, and other insights correlated to drug use; and
- Perceptions on government services and programs against dangerous drug.
A total budget of PhP 21.7 million will be utilized for the survey covering a total of 12,495 individuals nationwide. The survey will commence in February 2023 and the results are expected to be released in July 2023.
Results of the above-mentioned survey can be accessed at https://www.ddb.gov.ph/newsroom/511-2019-drug-survey-shows-drug-use-prev....
The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:
- ensure sound design for data collection;
- minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
- effect economy in statistical data collection;
- eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
- achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, the PSA enjoins all the target respondents in the country to support and participate in said survey by providing the required information.
