The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the survey on Status of Internet Access, Network Coverage and Internet Speed in the Four Provinces in Central Visayas by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 7.

The survey aims to gather primary data on the status of network coverage for mobile broadband in rural areas with available internet service providers (ISPs) and internet speed for fixed-line services to get at least a reliable provincial level data. Result of the survey will provide reliable local level data to aid decision makers in determining more viable programs and projects for Central Visayas.

The data items to be collected in the survey include:

1. Demographic profile;
2. Availability of internet connection at home;
3. Type of network;
4. Type of subscription;
5. Actual internet speed;
6. Reasons for the non-subscription of internet;
7. Availability and status of mobile network coverage and speed;
8. Average monthly data load expense; and
9. Availability of cell sites and social acceptability.

The survey will cover about 2,600 households in Central Visayas from June to September 2023. A total budget amounting to PhP 3.02 million will be utilized in the survey and the results are expected to be released in the first quarter of 2024.

The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

1. ensure sound design for data collection;

2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;

3. effect economy in statistical data collection;

4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and

5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins all sampled households to participate in the survey by providing the necessary information.
