The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducts the 2020 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI), and its rider survey, the 2020 Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines (STEP).

The ASPBI is one of the designated statistical activities of PSA that aims to generate essential statistics for economic planning and analysis. It is specifically designed to collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of economic activities of the formal sector of the country’s economy.  On the other hand, the STEP generates economic statistics that will be used to measure the progress of tourism industry in the country.

Among the data collected in the 2020 ASPBI are employment, revenue, expense, sales from e-commerce transactions, capital expenditures, book value of fixed tangible and intangible assets, average capacity utilization rate, and inventory.  Meanwhile, the data collected for the 2020 STEP are employment, facilities/amenities and usage, transport facilities, solid waste type and disposal, revenue, and plans for expansion and renovation.

The surveys cover 38,500 sample establishments for the 2020 ASPBI and around 10,000 sample establishments for the 2020 STEP. The distribution of questionnaires started on 19 April 2021. Sample establishments are encouraged to accomplish the online questionnaires as PSA promotes digital innovation towards our surveys especially during the present Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As to our physical surveys conducted, all PSA personnel are trained to strictly adhere to the protocols implemented by the government to reduce the spread of infection.

The results of the surveys shall be released as follows:

PSA encourages the sample respondents to cooperate by providing the needed information in the surveys.  The information collected shall be kept strictly confidential, and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as stipulated in Section 26 of Republic Act 10625.
