The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) approves the conduct of the 2021 Corporate Financial Trends Survey (CFTS) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The CFTS is a statistical initiative designed to improve the BSP’s understanding of the financial condition of the corporate sector across various industries. The information to be generated from the survey will be used in establishing a corporate database that will aid in formulating better policies necessary to maintain a stable financial system that is conducive to strong and sustainable economic growth.

The survey aims to gather data per industry from various Non-Financial Corporations (NFCs) to improve the understanding on the recent trends on the financial condition of the corporate sector in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The major data items that will be gathered from the survey are as follows:

a. total assets, liabilities, and equities (accounts and levels);
b. sources and Uses of Funds;
c. currency Mismatch (Assets vs. Liabilities);
d. debt-to-equity (DE) Ratio, and its distribution across different sectors;
e. debt by type of financing;
f. debt by type of interest rate and maturity to total debt;
g. distribution of debt by sector and currency;
h. total debt by type of interest rate and currency; and
i. hedged exposures.

The 2021 CFTS will collect data from 924 corporations from the 2019 Edition of the Business World (BW) list of Top 1,000 Corporations in  July 2021. The results of the survey are scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2021. A total budget amounting to PhP 168 thousand will be utilized in the survey.

This survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:

a. ensure sound design for data collection;
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
c. effect economy in statistical data collection;
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the Top 1,000 corporations included in the 2019 Edition of BW list to support the CFTS.
